Happy Times!

Last night Joe and Zach went on a little outing up to Yale (in New Haven, Connecticut) for an organ recital. We had thought about going up as a family, but it ended up that Joe's co-workers were all going to go, so they made it a boys trip! I am glad that Zach could go with him- good father-son bonding!

Zachary hasn't been to an organ concert in some time- we thought they were so cultured and yet we have been lacking for a number of years now-need I suggest 6 or so! Zach reminded us that they haven't been to a parade either (it keeps coming up in conversation)- which we will remedy next month at the Macy's Day parade; haven't been to a musical concert in ages-not since he was a little fellow sitting there, holding his hands over both of his ears for the duration of the concert. Joe said he has much improved his concert etiquette. They haven't been to a ballet, or opera, or play or musical......with us, so, I think we have some work to do and we will do some of that before our departure!

We have had a really great week full of good times with friends and together time as a family. On Friday we met up with some friends from church (the Buckners) at the Heckscher playground in Central Park-we just had a great time and certainly didn't want it to end so soon. We couldn't stay too long because I had to run Zach over to the church so he could attend his first overnight camp out with the scouts. He was so excited about it, and it turned out to be a great experience for him. He went to Harriman state park, and had a nice night at the campfire and a hike on Saturday morning- they saw the remnants of the "corn syrup formula" guy's mansion- very much in disrepair. They also went to a fire-tower and climbed it to see the surrounding area including a view of the Appalachian mountains. They also were able to see the Irish Potato which is a giant boulder atop Irish mountain. Zach suggests that it is a nice little hill, not so much a mountain!

Saturday the kids had their Primary program practice and fall festival at the church- it was really fun for the kids- Eli loved the pumpkin bowling and painting and they all loved the doughnut on the string.

We met up with Joe at the Met and distracted ourselves at the gift shop for a bit then on to the Disney store for myself, Eli and Bella- whilst Joe and Kaija went to the Steinway store- I didn't figure that Eli would be all that welcomed there! It was hard to get the two of them out of there once we had met up with Zach and were ready to go! We intended to go to the pumpkin patch at Central Park, but we opted out since it was raining and besides, we had a party to go to with some really fun people from church. We all had a blast and many good laughs and loved all the fantastic costumes, fun games, and great food.

So much for you to do still! When we were there we saw them filling up the huge balloon characters the night before the parade, which was very cool.
Wow, I'm impressed that you haven't been sick! Does that mean you've had some relief from your allergies too? (Here I am sniffling and sneezing...)

Yes Julie, I have had no allergies! It has been so beautiful- Missouri is a killer in that department! And we are definately going to go watch them blow up the balloons!
Judi- so nice of you to visit! And what exactly does "little charity trip" mean?

You are so good to keep up your blog - I go in spurts with ours, but you have motivated me to add some posts! I just wanted to mention that the night before the Macy's Day Parade, you can watch them blow up the balloons right by the Natural History Museum. I'm sure you already knew, but just in case, I thought I'd pass the info along! We always do that instead of going to the parade. :)

If you tell me that you can see the parade from your front window I will fly, bike, drive, or walk to get there. I have always wanted to see the Macy's Day Parade from a place above the crowd. IMHO, you really need to take the older kids to see a show while there. I loved Mary Poppins but if I had to choose I would see Wicked again, hands down. It was amazing. Don't get seats too close to the stage or you miss action taking place further back on the stage. I think your kids would love it too!
